Krabi Province covers an area of 4708 km² and has about 460,000 habitants. The province also has more than 130 large and small islands including the world famous Phi Phi Islands. The province itself is famous for it’s beautiful beaches and limestone cliffs and most of the tourists find these from Ao Nang and Railey beach, the two main beaches of Krabi province. Other popular attractions in the province are national parks, such as Than Bok Khorani, The Emerald pool, hot springs and the Tiger Cave Temple just outside the provinces capital, Krabi Town. Tourism plays major role in the provinces economy although farming is still important income for the locals. The provinces sandy soil is suitable for growing various plants, especially rubber trees, oil palms, coconuts, cashew nuts and coffee.
Some archaeological evidence indicates that Krabi area had been home to Homo Sapiens during the prehistoric times which makes it one of the oldest human settlements in Thailand. This theory is supported by the discovery of ancient cave paintings, stone tools, beads, pottery and skeletal remains around the provinces caves and cliffs.
